Library Foundation staging 'pink house' fundraiser 4/25/07 The Daviess County Public Library Foundation will kick off its 2007 Vision 20/20 Capital Fundraising Campaign with a cocktail buffet from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Phoebe Athey's residence — "the pink house" — on the corner of East Parrish Avenue and Allen Street. Athey, a library supporter, is hosting the event and providing gourmet food from Ron Waite at A la Carte. Admission is a $25 per person donation to benefit the library foundation, and attendees may pay at the door. The evening will include entertainment by jazz trio Charlene Blay and the 2nd Edition, as well as three short musical numbers by Merely Players, Inc. In addition, Athey will perform a comic monologue. The library foundation's goal is to encourage appreciation and long-term private financial support to enrich and advance the library, Chairwoman Cindra Stiff said. The first-year financial goal is to secure $250,000 by Dec. 31. The organization also is trying to further develop an endowment to support future programs and the collection. "The library has operating money from the tax district," Stiff said. "The foundation will provide funds for enriching types of programs." Members are working to raise awareness of the foundation as well as to generate contributions. "Phoebe has been so generous and has been an
immense help with this initial fundraiser," Stiff said. |
