People:
Southeastern Theatre Conference returns to the Noog
3/5/08
by Stephanie Smith
The Chattanooga Pulse
Chattanooga will be overrun with nearly 5,000 delegates from theatres all
over the country during this week’s Southeastern Theatre Conference. One
portion of programming is devoted to SETC’s five festivals—the Fringe, High
School, Theatre for Youth Invitational, Ten-Minute Play, and Community
Theatre festivals. Of the five, only one is open to the public, the
Community Theatre Festival.
The Chattanooga Theatre Centre will play host to visiting community theatres
from nine states during the course of three days. “Community theatre is by
no means the focus of SETC, but it is an important aspect of the convention.
(The convention) will have a huge impact on the local economy, and the
Chattanooga Theatre Centre continues to enjoy a nice reputation throughout
the region (based on SETC exposure),” says Jeffrey Brown, Producing Director
of the CTC. The CTC was honored this year when its production of Clair de
Lune was selected to represent the state of Tennessee.
Tickets can be purchased at the CTC Box Office, located at 400 River Street
or by calling (423) 267-8534. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Mon –
