Diane Huff

Repertory Company

Born in Georgia, Diane grew up in Louisville, earned her BFA and MA from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and raised her own two daughters here in Daviess County. Laurie is a performing artist working in Las Vegas and Dee Dee is an equine veterinarian practicing in Kentucky. She has taught in colleges, museums and public schools and has exhibited and received awards in hundreds of group and one-person, juried and invitational art exhibitions in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio at such institutions as: J. B. Speed Museum and Pegasus Gallery in Louisville; the Parthenon and Vanderbilt University in Nashville; Evansville Museum, Evansville University and the Carnegie Fine Art Museum in Indiana; University of Kentucky and the Living Arts & Science Center in Lexington, the Capitol Fine Arts Center, Western Kentucky University and the Kentucky Museum in Bowling Green; and locally at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, Brescia University, the OCC gallery and at RiverPark Center in Owensboro.

In the performing arts, her lifetime has been spent behind the scenes serving on the boards of the Owensboro Dance Theatre and the Owensboro Ice Arena, backstage with the dance theatre, Theatre Workshop, the Figure Skating Club and Children's theater doing sets, costumes, lights, sound, makeup, even directing and writing for children's productions. Merely Players' production of QUICK & PAINLESS was her stage debut as an adult actress.

"I have often heard of life referred to as a circle, but I think a more fitting metaphor is described by Arthur Efland in Art is Cognition. I can easily recognize my life in his metaphor of meandering pathways that diverge and intersect as they weave their way back and forth across the rugged terrain of a landscape. I can paint a picture of one of those pathways as a meandering gray highway that carries me from my art studio in an old Kentucky farmhouse through the rolling countryside of olive, umber and sienna; past clusters of white houses and red barns to straighten and broaden as it rushes toward the concrete and neon of the city. Excitement, energy, frenzy. Crowds of humanity yielding, merging, dispersing. Struggling against the cold wind, stepping across the oily puddles that sparkle from the street lights. Opening nights at the gallery, sipping cheap champagne. Late nights at the theatre, painting sets, repairing costumes, rehearsing. Sounds of the orchestra tuning up, dancers stretching. Festivals on the riverfront, makeshift stages, video camera on my shoulder, and boom box in my hand. Can you picture me?"
